6 Wet Room Tile Ideas

A tiled wet room will create that ‘wow’ factor in a contemporary bathroom. Your choice of tile will make or break your wet room, so it’s important to pick one that complements your existing décor and maximizes the space. You should also choose a design that’s timeless enough to look good for years to come. Need some inspiration? Here are our top 6 ideas for tiling a wet room.

Create a feature wall

When it comes to wet room design ideas, one of the easiest and most visually striking things you can do is create a feature wall. This allows you to highlight the shower area for a stylish look. Choose one tile in a standout colour, pattern, texture or shape and use it to tile the area in your wet room you wish to highlight. To draw attention your feature tile, contrast it with a simple tile.

Monochrome

Monochrome is a timeless look that never goes out of style. The contrast between black and white also adds definition and visual interest to a wet room.

With monochrome, the design possibilities are endless. Lay black and white tiles in a grid or offset pattern on the walls. For example, black and white metro tiles look incredibly stylish when used together in your favourite layout pattern. Another idea is to create a feature wall or floor with a black tile, and then contrast it with white.

For added luxury, consider using black and white marble in your wet room. You can tile one or two walls in black marble and the rest in white, or tile the floor with one colour and the walls with the other. We also love this Ebru Hex Tile, which combines black and white for a stunning look.

Bring nature indoors

Earthy, organic textures are very on-trend in interiors. However, natural materials like stone or wood are expensive and require a lot of maintenance. Our organic texture tiles are highly durable and look just like the material they are replicating, so you add natural elements to your home without the cost and upkeep of the real thing. These tiles are perfect for creating calm, tranquil vibes in a wet room.

Stone effect tiles will add depth and texture to your wet room while recreating that high-end spa look – perfect for a shower that invigorates you in the morning and relaxes you in the evening! Use two different stone effect tiles for your walls and floors. Or use one stone tile to create a feature wall and contrast it with a neutral tile. Stone effect tiles also work perfectly with warm wood tones, maintaining that opulent organic theme throughout your wet room.

As you can imagine, wood isn’t the best material for wet rooms. Luckily, you can achieve the same look with wood effect tiles. These tiles will make your wet room feel warm, calm, and inviting. Use to tile the area or just the floor. Wood effect tiles can also be paired with other neutral tones. At Tileshack, we have several wood effect tiles available, from browns to greys.

Mad about mosaics

Mosaic tiles are small and have prominent grout lines, so they are excellent for creating texture, definition, and visual appeal in a wet room. They will stand out against other tiles while complementing them at the same time. Use them to create a feature wall or border. Or if you have a shower niche in your wet room (i.e., a cubbyhole built into the wall), highlight it with mosaics; using mosaic tiles to draw attention to small details is a very trendy & luxurious look. You could also use mosaics to tile a wet room floor, as the extra grout lines provide added grip for your feet.

Our mosaic sheets are highly versatile easy to install. Made from glass, porcelain, or ceramic, they come in a wide range of colours and patterns and can be used to create a range of looks. Here is a taster of some of our most popular mosaics:

 - Penny or circle tiles are an eye-catching mosaic that is growing in popularity. They are a good choice for a wet room with curved walls. Pair with a plain tile and simple design elements to prevent overpowering the space.

 - Hex tiles are a brilliant way to add personality to your wet room. They work in both traditional & modern design schemes.

 - Available in soft colours, our square mosaics are ideal for creating a clean, timeless look.

 - Mosaic tiles don’t have to be colourful or decorative to make an impact in your wet room. We offer a selection of elegant, understated mosaic tiles that add visual interest to a traditional space, such as the Flame White Gloss Tile.

Small wet rooms

For smaller wet rooms, you can create the illusion of more space to make it feel less cramped. To achieve this, use larger format tiles. These have fewer grout lines, which will make your wet room feel bigger.

Choose a lighter-coloured tile to make your wet room feel bigger, brighter, and airier. If possible, go for a gloss tile as these will reflect the light. We stock a selection of clean, contemporary tiles perfect for tiling a small wet room. These are available in bright & neutral colours, which range from marble to light beige. Many of our contemporary tiles are rectified; with no visible grout lines, these tiles will maximise the space in a small wet room.

Large Wetrooms

For larger wet rooms, we recommend choosing tiles that accentuate the space you have. Choose a large format tile as your main tile, as this will keep your wet room feeling spacious and cohesive. You can use a busier, smaller format tile as an accent feature, such as a pattern or mosaic tile. This will increase the visual appeal of your wet room and provide a beautiful contrast.
