We supply both electric and underfloor heating kits.
What is electric underfloor heating?
Electric underfloor heating consists of electric heating elements (these could take the form of heating mats or cables) which are fitted underneath the floor. It therefore heats your room via an electric current, so does not rely on your central heating system. It’s also relatively straightforward to install.
What is meant by wet underfloor heating?
Wet underfloor heating requires a network of pipes which provide heat by carrying hot water through the house, so you need to ensure that you have sufficient space to install these. The water is heated by your home’s gas boiler and then distributed underneath the floor to warm your room/s.
What are the benefits of underfloor heating?
Underfloor heating offers an energy-efficient way to heat your home, with wet underfloor heating being more cost-effective at heating larger spaces than electric. It has various other benefits, including having lower maintenance and running costs, while an obvious key feature is warming your rooms and providing enhanced comfort by having heated floors underfoot.
The temperature generated by underfloor heating is also consistent throughout the room and it’s more hygienic, as it helps to combat the higher levels of moisture and humidity found at floor-level – something which is particularly useful in bathrooms. You can further regulate the temperature from room-to-room and because underfloor heating is compatible with a range of flooring types, it’s a flexible option for most homes.
Can you put underfloor heating under all types of flooring?
Underfloor heating works with a range of flooring, including all types of tiles, as well as laminate and vinyl floors. It’s not a good choice for using with most solid wood floors, although here at Tileshack, we supply an engineered solid wood flooring manufactured from several layers of wood, which makes it more suited to underfloor heating.
