Focus on: 3D tiles

With 3D tiles a trending look in 2023, the style looks set to continue into 2024, making this an inspired choice if you want quirky, eye-catching tiles for your home which will be an immediate talking-point. Originally more of a niche choice, 3D tiles have grown in popularity thanks to their wow factor look and potential to transform a space with their unique design.

If you want to find out more about these interesting tiles, then read to the end of the blog – and discover some of our own 3D tile recommendations.

What are three-dimensional tiles?

If you’re considering 3D tiles for your home then it’s good to know what exactly they are, so an overview of the 3D style is that it’s basically a tile which has a textured or raised surface. This might be more obviously elevated with the surface (or parts of it) protruding outwards, or it can be more subtle with a slightly raised surface or ribbed texture – essentially, something which adds depth. Embossed tiles can also be described as having 3D elements.

With a more tactile aesthetic, 3D tiles are ideal if you want an abstract look and they’re therefore great for using as accent tiles and creating feature areas in rooms. However, if you really want to create impact, then using them throughout an interior will certainly grab attention.

Smooth and subtle three-dimensional designs

With a more modest 3D effect, the Kalos Rel Grey Ceramic Wall Tile is a rectangular tile with an elevated finish that delivers a textured appearance which will add visual interest to your interior. The neutral tone will also work well alongside various décor, while pairing these tiles with a smoother tile in a similar shade will provide a nice contrast.

With a similar colour palette, the Orsay Pearl Matt Decor Rectified White Body Tile has that same subtle textured design, with a raised pattern running across the surface of the tiles which adds visual interest and depth. With rectified edges, these give the tiles a precise finish so they can be laid more closely together, with fewer grout lines required. As a result, the 3D design ‘pops’ more keenly amidst this precision of clean lines.

The alternating raised pattern on the tiles also gives them a modern, geometric-inspired aesthetic, with the matt finish further adding to this.

As a very versatile colour, grey is easy to pair with lots of other shades, making it an ideal choice for many interiors. It also brings a calming vibe, so if you want to create a relaxing ambience then it’s a good choice.

The Warha Shetland Moon Rectified Tile is another tile within this colour palette and has a natural look with a modern matt finish.

This large-format tile features a selection of much narrower rectangular shapes which are raised at different ends.

This creates the 3D, textured effect and encourages the gaze to flow easily across the tiles for a flowing effect.

Bold 3D tiling for added character

If subtle isn’t quite your style and you’d rather embrace the full 3D effect in a more obvious form, however, then the Even Metallic Wall Tile in Silver is a tile which will certainly grab attention. With a smooth, sleek metallic finish which gives a gleam to the surface, it features a distinctive raised design which protrudes in four places within each square-shaped tile.

The overall effect when laid is therefore one which creates a very textured aesthetic, with raised elements to give that added dimension and depth. Perfect for feature walls (as pictured below), these tiles have a bold look and will create instant impact and character in your interior.

Also available in a bronze finish, these tiles will add a quirky, artistic element to your bathroom or any other interior, with metallic also a trending look going into 2024.

The Metro Sage-green Biselado Brillo Ceramic Tile.

Meanwhile, for a nature-inspired green vibe with 3D elements, the Metro Sage-green Biselado Brillo Ceramic Tile has a subtle raised design with bevelled edges and a smooth, gloss finish in the popular rectangular subway style.

These are a great choice if you want to incorporate the 3D effect into your room but without being as obvious as with the Even Metallic Wall Tile.
