Shower tile inspiration

If you have a shower, then you can easily create a feature of it within your bathroom by choosing visually interesting tiling for the walls and/or floor. Whether you have a new-build home and are keen to make a statement with tiles or you’re updating your existing bathroom, there are lots of ways to breathe life into your shower and make it an eye-catching space.

From large-format and mosaic tiling to vibrant tones, shapes and designs, there’s a range of choice when it comes to shower tiles. Read on for some inspiration and our top tips for shower tiles in your home …

Best materials for your shower tiles

When it comes to choosing the right material for your shower tiles, porcelain and ceramic are the top choices, with porcelain offering particularly excellent water-resistance, so ideal for wet areas like showers. While both ceramic and porcelain are hard-wearing materials which are great for bathrooms, porcelain tends to be more durable and robust. With this in mind, if you have a busy household and a shower that’s in frequent use, then it might be the better choice.

With a non-porous surface, porcelain is very easy to clean and has a higher moisture-resistance than ceramic. Meanwhile, the more rigid structure of porcelain means it’s just a stronger all-round material which is less likely to suffer from damage.

Ceramic remains a good choice, however, for shower tiles, as it’s also water-resistant and a robust material which won’t easily crack.

One of our popular porcelain tiles is the Caracalla Beige Cream Porcelain Tile, a large-format design which is suitable for both walls and floors.

This rectangular tile blends beige and cream tones together in a marble-effect look, with a matt finish and rectified edges adding to the overall aesthetic. This creates a stylish, contemporary-looking tile which is ideal for the modern bathroom.

For a ceramic tile, the Kalos White Ceramic Wall Tile is an inspired choice for your shower and is another large-format style with a natural look. Featuring a white base overlaid with a light-grey marble-inspired design, this tile will work with a range of décor and is a versatile option for your shower, as well as being robust and water-resistant.

Large-format vs mosaic tiling

Size and shape are subsequently other factors to consider when selecting your shower tiles. While 2023 saw an upward trend in square-shaped tiles for showers, large rectangular tiling remains a popular option, as does using smaller tiles like mosaics.

Larger tiles like the two designs mentioned above can help make your bathroom appear more spacious, while those with rectified edges will also create a more flowing, seamless aesthetic which enhances this. Mosaic tiling, meanwhile, adds visual interest with lots of smaller tiles, which also give texture and depth.

The Hex Frisia Silver Non-slip Mosaic Sheet is a mosaic tile which encompasses all of this, combining navy, turquoise and silver tones in small, hexagonal-shaped tiles with a modern matt finish. The result is a striking patterned effect which will add vibrancy to your shower, the matt finish and alternating colours creating that all-important texture and depth.

Another mosaic tile is the Piano Grey Mosaic Sheet, a stylish porcelain design with a slim rectangular shape which has the look of piano keys, hence the name. With a classic grey tone and sleek, glossy finish, this is a tile which will work well with other colours in your bathroom, while the eye-catching shape of the tiles will always demand attention. A designer tile, the Piano Grey Mosaic Sheet will add instant style and appeal to the modern shower.

Bold shower tile styles

The overall colour of your tiles is also, of course, key when it comes to choosing a style for your shower. You can subsequently go bold or opt for a more muted look, with patterned, bright and colourful as well as more natural tones all perfect for enhancing your shower space.

As we’ve already looked at some of the more natural tones, our next example is a vibrant metro tile in an on-trend green. The Metro Verde Bottle-green Biselado Brillo Ceramic Tile is a bold tile with that distinctive subway-style design which will create a stunning feature of your shower.

With a gloss finish and bright bottle-green tone, this is a tile that demands attention and is also bang on trend, with green continuing to be a must-have bathroom colour going into 2024.

Another bright and bold option in a similar style is the Essenza Blue Shiny Metro Tile.

With a gloss finish and textured look, which includes a crackle-effect design with intricate etching detail, this beautiful blue tile evokes a natural aesthetic and has that cool, calming oceanic look which is always popular in bathrooms.
