What’s your tile style?

What’s your tile style?

With so many different styles, tones and textures to choose from, tiles have come a long way over the years, with something out there to suit every taste. Having all these choices, however, can sometimes make it difficult to decide what’s right for your home, as you can feel bombarded by all the options. It therefore helps to take a little time to work out what your specific ‘tile style’ is.

The circular design of tiles like the Penny Natureglass Deep Blue Matt variety are eye-catching with their shape and striking tone.

For example, are you someone who enjoys a bold pattern and colour palette or do you prefer a more understated and neutral look? Do you like textures in your tiles, such as gloss, glaze, matt, or fluted features? Do you prefer quirky shapes or more classic styles? Is a larger size tile more appealing than smaller tiles? Do you prefer patterned or plain designs…?

Knowing the answers to these questions will help to refine your options, so you can focus on browsing the tiles which best match your individual preferences. We’ve subsequently highlighted a few popular tile types below, just in case you need a helping hand in pinpointing your personal tile style…

Tiles with chic shapes

With a wide range of designs available, you can really have some fun with your tiles in terms of size and shape, with everything from circular and hexagonal to diamond and fish scale options on offer.

The Penny Natureglass Deep Blue Matt Non-slip Mosaic Sheet is a deep blue glass Spanish tile which fuses a bold colour palette with a modern design to create a striking aesthetic that will make your bathroom pop. This designer mosaic tile is therefore ideal if you want to create an eye-catching look that is both practical and stylish. The high-quality glass is robust while also being incredibly attractive and will contrast beautifully with a range of décor.

The matt finish also gives these tiles a premium appearance and the non-slip feature makes them ideal for wet rooms and pools. Made from 98% recycled glass, they’re also environmentally-friendly, so are a great choice for the eco-conscious.

Hexagonal tiles are another great choice if you like to experiment with tile formats.

Another inspired choice for interestingly shaped tiles is the Hex XL Denim Copper Mosaic Sheet with grey glass background. The graded colour palette – which combines hues of copper, denim and grey – paired with the hexagonal shape of the tiles creates a stunning mosaic design which will add style and elegance to any room.

Another resilient glass tile, this is a great choice if your preferred tile style includes creative design and a striking colour palette. A more understated look than the Penny Natureglass blue tone, this will nevertheless draw the eye for all the right reasons.

Patterned perfection: Tiles with artistic flair

If quirky shapes aren’t quite your cup of tea, however, then perhaps patterned tiles are more your style?

If so, then consider the Danubio Pattern TileDanubio Pattern Tile – a hard-wearing porcelain floor tile with contemporary vibes that will add instant charm to your home. With each tile split into four contrasting but complementary patterns in pastel-like tones including navy, white, taupe, blue, yellow and green, the overall effect is one of quirky style and calming hues.

Patterned tiles will add instant character to your room and can combine a mixture of colour palettes and designs.

For example, the Danubio Pattern Tile, pictured left and above, has lots of contemporary charm and uses a variety of colour combinations and artistic designs.

Made from glazed ceramic stoneware, these durable tiles are both practical and stylish and cleverly mix patterns, shapes and colour combinations to satisfy those with a taste for artistic flair, without being over-the-top. The result is a tile which marries a retro vibe with a more modern aesthetic.

If you think that patterns might be your tile style but aren’t convinced about combining multiple designs, however, then opting for a repeated pattern might be the answer, as seen in the Nouveau Blue Matt Glazed Porcelain Wall & Floor Tile.

Patterned tiles with a single design and colour palette can create a statement look, like the Nouveau Blue Matt Glazed Porcelain tiles pictured above.

Made from blue porcelain, the look here is cool and classic, with a discreet satin finish giving these tiles a softer sheen. Meanwhile, the rectified style means that the edges are cleanly cut, this precision resulting in a seamless, continuous pattern which looks striking on either floor or wall.

Rectangular tiles

If you’re still struggling to identify your personal tile style, then it could be that a classic rectangular design in more natural tones and without patterning might suit you best.

The Obra Grey Porcelain Tile is a good example of this with its neutral grey tone in concrete effect. Evoking a more natural vibe, the overall effect is one of cool and calm, while the large size creates the illusion of additional space.

This large square-shaped tile is extremely versatile, so will complement a wide range of décor, while the solid colour maintains a minimal modern look.

The Obra Grey Porcelain Tile evokes a calming ambience with its cool, natural tone.

By considering the basics of tiles and combining this information with your own personal preferences, you can whittle down the options and make a more informed choice when choosing the right tiles for your home. Lots of choice needn’t result in confusion so, if you’re feeling a bit lost amid all the designs, shapes and colours, just take a step back and think about what it is you really like the look of.
